Aaromaley Movie Review:

✅ Introduction

Aaromaley, directed by Sarang Thiagu, offers a refreshing and realistic approach to modern romance—moving away from dreamy, idealistic love seen in Gautham Vasudev Menon’s films to a more grounded and sensible portrayal. With neat packaging, charming moments, and smart subversions of rom-com clichés, the film manages to stand out.

📖 Storyline

Ajith (Kishen Das), a hopeless romantic fed on filmy fantasies, tries to crash the wedding of his longtime crush along with his friend Sachin (Harshath Khan), only to land in jail. Silambarasan TR’s voiceover attributes Ajith’s naive ideas of love to his cinematic influences (VTV included).
At Lifetime Matrimony, where Ajith meets the practical Anjali (Shivathmika Rajasekar), his rose-tinted fantasies clash with grounded realities. The film explores how both characters’ contrasting ideologies evolve when stripped of their illusions.

⭐ Performance Highlights

  • Kishen Das delivers an earnest performance as the confused, fantasy-driven lover boy who gradually matures.
  • Shivathmika Rajasekar shines as Anjali, a refreshing deviation from the typical “loosu ponnu” heroine.
  • Harshath Khan steals the show with effortless comedy, elevating even slower segments.
  • VTV Ganesh adds humour and depth, although his subplot wavers in impact.
  • Tulasi, as Ajith’s mother, brings emotional depth—especially in a key second-half scene.

🎬 Technical Brilliance

  • Music and BG Score: Subtle and breezy, complementing the film’s tone without overshadowing it.
  • Cinematography: Mostly confined to indoor spaces—effective but eventually feels visually repetitive.
  • Editing: Crisp, though some subplots could have been trimmed or better justified.

🎥 Direction & Production

Sarang Thiagu impressively redefines rom-com narrative tropes. His writing introduces:

  • mature conversations on relationships,
  • refreshing role reversals,
  • and a non-toxic portrayal of past relationships.

His mentor GVM’s influence is visible but not derivative—Sarang brings new ideas that challenge and update the old ones, making the film feel like a dialectical upgrade to the genre.

👍 Plus

  • Fresh and realistic take on romance
  • Strong female characterisation
  • Witty humour, especially through Harshath
  • Mature handling of past relationships and conflicts
  • Engaging lead chemistry without clichés

👎 Minus

  • Overuse of indoor settings creates visual claustrophobia
  • Subplots (VTV Ganesh and the other couple) lack proper closure
  • Character transformations feel rushed and under-explained
  • Some emotionally sensitive moments undercut by misplaced comedy

💭 Final Thoughts

Aaromaley is a welcome change in Tamil rom-coms, doing away with fairy-tale romance but retaining warmth, charm, and sweetness. Sarang Thiagu proves he has his own voice, capable of evolving the genre with sincerity and subtle wit. Despite a few narrative dips and spatial monotony, the film remains engaging, relatable, and emotionally rewarding.

⭐ Rating: 3.5 / 5
