Kandhara – Chapter 1 Movie Review

Introduction
Rishab Shetty’s Kandhara – Chapter 1 arrives with huge expectations after the success of Kantara. Backed by Hombale Films and filled with rich visuals, music, and strong performances, the film attempts to take the audience deep into the mystical forest of Kandhara.

Storyline
The film narrates the struggle between a mighty king and the Kandhara tribe. While the king and his heirs try to capture the forest and exploit its resources, Rishab Shetty’s character rises to protect his land and people. The story blends spirituality, folklore, and tribal valor, offering both grandeur and conflict.

Performance Highlights

  • Rishab Shetty shines as the tribal hero with powerful body language, intense expressions, and a commanding screen presence.
  • Rukmini Vasanth balances beauty and strength; her transformation in the second half stands out.
  • Jayaram delivers dignity and cunning as the king, while Gulshan Devaiah as his son is equally effective.

Technical Brilliance

  • Music by B Ajaneesh Loknath is a major plus. The songs uplift the mood, and the background score gives life to even weak moments, holding the narrative together.
  • Cinematography by Aravind K Kashyap is visually stunning, capturing the grandeur of the forest, battles, and tribal life with scale and finesse.
  • Editing by Suresh could have been sharper, as the stretched runtime slightly drags the impact.

Direction and Production
Rishab Shetty, as writer-director, mounts a massive canvas mixing war, folklore, and spirituality. While the effort is ambitious, the emotional depth that made Kantara special feels somewhat diluted. The production design and VFX work are commendable, giving the film a majestic appearance.

Plus

  • Stellar performances (especially Rishab and Rukmini)
  • Powerful background score
  • Stunning visuals and grand production values
  • Spiritual and tribal elements adding uniqueness

Minus

  • Lengthy runtime weakens engagement
  • Screenplay feels predictable and old-fashioned in places
  • Emotional connect not as strong as expected

Final Thoughts
Kandhara – Chapter 1 is visually rich and technically strong, with standout performances and music. However, a tighter screenplay and stronger emotional core could have elevated it to the next level. Still, it’s a good cinematic attempt that sets the stage for what’s to come in future chapters.
