Introduction
Parimala and Co is a family-oriented comedy suspense drama that blends humor, mystery, and a socially relevant message. Director Pandiraj attempts to address an issue faced by women through an entertaining narrative packed with twists, quirky characters, and family emotions.
Storyline
Jayaram and Urvashi play a middle-class couple leading a peaceful life with their two daughters, who are constantly at odds with each other. Their routine life takes a turn when a local rowdy, Sandy, begins harassing one of their daughters in the name of love. As his behavior becomes increasingly threatening, and with support from his grandmother, the family finds themselves under constant pressure.
Desperate to escape the harassment, the family even discusses the possibility of eliminating Sandy. However, before they can act, Sandy is mysteriously murdered.
The investigation is led by police officer Mysskin, who immediately suspects Jayaram’s family. As the inquiry progresses, family members begin suspecting one another. The arrival of Jayaram’s brother and Urvashi’s brother only adds to the confusion. Who killed Sandy, and why? The answers unfold through a mixture of comedy, suspense, and social commentary.
Performance Highlights
Jayaram and Urvashi are the heart and soul of the film. Their natural performances and impeccable comic timing generate several laugh-out-loud moments. However, a few scenes stretch the humor longer than necessary, slightly affecting the pace.
Director-actor Mysskin delivers a standout performance as the investigating officer. What initially appears to be a straightforward character gradually transforms into one of the film’s biggest surprises, particularly during the climax.
Sandy impresses in a refreshing avatar, moving beyond his choreographer image and proving his abilities as an actor.
Sanjana Krishnamoorthy and Ananthika Sanilkumar, who play the sisters, bring youthful energy and authenticity, effectively representing modern middle-class young women.
Supporting actors including G.K.M. Tamil Kumaran, Yogi Babu, and Poornima Ravi contribute effectively and strengthen the film’s overall appeal.
Technical Brilliance
Cinematographer George C. Williams presents visually appealing frames that complement the film’s light-hearted yet suspenseful tone.
Composer Faxon delivers energetic songs that are catchy and enjoyable. The background score also supports the narrative effectively, enhancing both the comedy and suspense elements.
Editor Pradeep E. Raghav and art director T. Ramalingam contribute significantly to maintaining the film’s quality and presentation.
Direction and Production
Director Pandiraj deserves credit for addressing a serious issue affecting women without resorting to a completely serious treatment. His intention to communicate an important message through comedy is commendable.
While some humorous moments work well, several comedy sequences and subplots feel excessive and occasionally test the audience’s patience. The film’s large number of characters and multiple side stories, though initially engaging, eventually become a weakness and dilute the main narrative.
However, Pandiraj regains control near the climax by delivering a meaningful message aimed at youngsters, helping the film conclude on a satisfying and impactful note.
