Directed By: Narasimman Packirisamy
Music By: Bruce and Shyamala Devi
Produced By: Bright Entertainment Times – Narasimman Packirisamy
Cast: Narasimman Packirisamy, Sumirah
Plot Summary:
Narasimman Packirisamy is a scientist working on cutting-edge satellite technology, living with his girlfriend Sumira in a remote, hilly area. While he is out of town on work, a masked man breaks into their home, brutally kills Sumira’s friend, and attempts to kill her as well. The film revolves around the mystery of the masked man, his motives, and whether Sumira can survive.
Performances:
- Narasimman Packirisamy: As the lead and also the director, writer, and producer, Packirisamy delivers a performance that does not fully justify his character’s complexity. While his role as a scientist is interesting, his portrayal lacks depth.
- Sumirah: In her debut role as the heroine, Sumirah initially struggles but becomes more convincing as the film progresses. Her performance shines in the latter part of the film when she faces off against the villain.
- Supporting Cast: The roles of the heroine’s friend and her lover, as well as the hero’s friend, are adequately performed but lack impact.
Music:
The music by Bruce and Shyamala Devi complements the film’s tone, but it is mostly functional, lacking any standout moments. The background score does its job without being memorable.
Cinematography:
Kiran’s cinematography manages to capture the eerie, isolated atmosphere of the hilly setting, which contributes to the suspense of the film. However, it’s not enough to elevate the overall experience.
Direction and Production:
Narasimman Packirisamy, while ambitious in creating a suspense thriller with limited resources, falls short in the execution. The small cast and single location approach help with the budget constraints, but the film’s simplicity works against it in terms of storytelling and engagement. While the initial setup builds curiosity, the key suspense is revealed too early, diluting the tension that is crucial for the genre. The film attempts to recover in the second half with the heroine’s survival struggle and final confrontation, but it lacks the necessary punch to keep the audience fully invested.
The screenplay is structured neatly, but the flaws in presentation, possibly due to budget limitations, prevent the film from delivering on its potential. The production quality is noticeably low, affecting the overall viewing experience.
Verdict:
HMM tries to tell an intriguing story with a limited budget, focusing on suspense and thriller elements. While there are moments of tension and mystery, the early reveal of key plot points and the underwhelming execution weaken the film’s impact. Despite a commendable effort by the director and team to work with minimal resources, the film does not justify the investment of time or attention from the audience.
