Rathnam: A Disappointing Action Drama
Synopsis:
In “Rathnam,” directed by Hari and starring Vishal, Priya Bhavani Shankar, and Samuthirakani, we witness the story of Rathnam (Vishal), a loyal aide to Panner Swamy (Samuthirakani), who falls for Mallika (Priya Bhavani Shankar) and discovers her life is in danger. Determined to protect her, Rathnam uncovers a deeper motive behind her predicament.
Performances:
Vishal delivers a sincere performance, particularly shining in action sequences. However, weak narration occasionally leads to over-the-top moments. Priya Bhavani Shankar fits her role well, while Samuthirakani’s performance is decent. The supporting cast offers average performances.
Technical Aspects:
DSP’s music fails to elevate the film, with loud BGM and outdated compositions. Cinematography impresses, especially during action sequences, but poor editing stretches scenes unnecessarily. Telugu dubbing is satisfactory.
Pros and Cons:
Pros:
- Strong production values
Cons:
- Outdated storyline
- Over-the-top drama
- Lack of compelling conflict
Analysis:
Hari’s direction, known for fast-paced narratives, falters in “Rathnam.” Slow pacing and uninteresting progression hinder audience engagement. Despite Vishal’s efforts, bland narration disappoints. Excessive action sequences in the second half detract from the film’s impact, and emotional resonance is lacking.
Conclusion:
“Rathnam” fails to captivate as an action drama. Weak narration, lack of excitement, and unconvincing execution contribute to its disappointment.
